The Text Message That My Girlfriend Should Never Have Sent To Me

Around 2003, 2004, I had a very young girlfriend. I never thought we would have anything serious because of the age difference. However, when the initial excitement passed, and I still wanted to see her, I decided to invest in the relationship.

We were together for almost a year. I was her first boyfriend, so even though I really liked her, the impression that everyone had — myself included — was that our relationship was much more important to her than me.

We were still in this honeymoon phase when the end of the year came (if I’m not mistaken, we had started dating in March or April). I would travel this way, she the other way. We spent the day together, it was great… We said goodbye in tears… And while I was on my way home, I received a message from her, something like this:

“Another year is over, and we hardly saw each other… Too bad. I loved you…”

Jeez!

I immediately called her:

ME — What message was that?

SHE — (SCARED) What message?

ME — One saying that the year is ending and that you didn’t see me, that you loved me… What’s this story?

SHE — (TRYING TO DISGUISE) I… I… I sent it by mistake, Ju… Actually, I was always afraid that you would break up with me, so I wrote this message if you did, it wasn’t supposed to be…
